The 2006 edition saw the cellebration of the 30 years of the São Paulo International Film Festival. A historical date for this event, which has become traditional in the city. To celebrate in style, the book Endless Cinema – The History of 30 years of the Mostra, with a historical retrospective of the festival, since its birth in 1977, was released. The 30th Mostra was also marked by the Petrobras Cultural Award, granted to Brazilian films, which contemplated the feature films “Antonia”, by Tata Amaral and “The Year My Parentes Went on Vacation”, by Cao Hamburger, besides the documentary “Fabricating Tom Zé”, by Décio Matos Jr. Other highlights were the retrospectives: Italian Political Film in the 60’s and 70’s which had the presence of the Brazilian actress living in Italy Florinda Bolkan, who was also a member of the jury, and Joaquim Pedro de Andrade - the audience had the opportunity to see the complete works of the filmmaker in restored prints. The Special Presentations brought the restoration of 1914’s Cabiria, by Giovanni Pastrone, Scary Stories, by Richard Oswald also made in 1914 and the short film collection Silent Shakespeare, made in 1911, all of which had live musical accompaniment in the theater, which has already become a mark of the São Paulo International Film Festival. In that edition, besides the Brazilian films that won the Petrobrás Award, the jury granted its award to the film “Drained”, by Heitor Dhalia. A partnership between the Cosac Naify and the Mostra released the book Italian Political Film in the 60’s and 70’s.
