• BETTE GORDON

  Born in the United States in 1950. A pioneer in American independent cinema and one of the most notable filmmakers to come out of the No Wave movement of the 1980’s in New York, she is known for her explorations of themes related to sexuality, violence and power. She directed films like Variety (1984, 9th Mostra), the segment Greed of the feature film Seven Women Seven Sins (1986), Luminous Motion (2000) and Handsome Harry (2009). Her films are in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum, The British Film Institute Collection, The Centre Georges Pompidou and MoMA. Part of her work, including her latest film The Drowning, will be screened at the 40th Mostra.

• JEFERSON DE

  Born in 1969. He graduated in Film at ECA-USP, and his work and study are devoted to the black movement. In 2005, he published the book Dogma Feijoada - O Cinema Negro Brasileiro. He produced television programs such as Brasil Total and Central da Periferia, both exhibited at Globo, and directed the TV series Pedro & Bianca (2013, TV Cultura) and Condomínio Jaqueline (2014, FOX), in addition to being the host of Mais Direitos, Mais Humanos at TV Brasil. He directed, among others, the shorts Carolina (2003), Narciso Rap (2005) and Jonas Só Mais Um (2007). Bróder (2010, 34th Mostra), his first feature, was screened at the Berlin Film Festival. He also signed the direction of The Amulet (2015).

• LITA STANTIC

  Born in Argentina in 1942. As producer, she is one of the responsible for the flourishing of the New Argentine Cinema, a film renewal movement that emerged in the country in the late 1990’s. She started her career in 1965 directing two short movies, El Bombero Está Triste y Llora and Un Día.... In 1968, began to sign the production of feature films, activity she pursues to this day. Among the films which she produced are works such as Camila (1984, 9th Mostra), by María Luisa Bemberg; The Holy Girl (2004, 28th Mostra), by Lucrecia Martel; Habi, the Foreigner (2013, 37th Mostra), by María Florencia Álvarez, and Paulina (2015, 39th Mostra), by Santiago Mitre. She is also the director of the feature A Wall of Silence (1993).

• NICOLAS KLOTZ

  Born in France in 1954. He is one of the founders of Reptile Cambrioleur Theater Group, and started his career in 1987 as a director of musical documentaries. Alongside with Élisabeth Perceval, he has made important short films, videos, documentaries and cinematic installations, through which they are developing a cinema that questions cinematographic form as much as contemporary changes. As a filmmaker, he directed the features The Sacred Night (1993), Pariah (2000), The Wound (2004), Heartbeat Detector (2007) and Low Life (2011), all of them screened at Mostra. Their most recent films, Mata Atlântica and Friday The 13th will be exhibited at the 40th Mostra.

• PETER BROSENS

  Born in Belgium in 1962. Over the last 25 years, he has built up a significant trajectory as an independent producer, director and writer. He graduated in geography, specialized in anthropology, which led him to work in Ecuador, where he directed the short film El Camino del Tiempo (1992). He directed de documentaries City of the Steppes (1994), State of Dogs (1998), winner of Critics Prize at 22nd Mostra, and Poets of Mongolia (1998) — which are part of the “Mongolia trilogy"—, in addition to the fiction feature films Khadak (2006, 30th Mostra), Altiplano (2009, 32nd Mostra) and The Fifth Season (2012). At this 40th Mostra, he integrates the Jury and displays his latest movie, King of the Belgians, made in partnership with Jessica Woodworth.

• VASCO PIMENTEL

  Born in Portugal in 1957. Since 1979, he has worked with sound directing, mixing, and sound and image editing in over 130 features of directors like Samuel Fuller, Werner Schroeter, Raúl Ruiz, Wim Wenders, Vincent Gallo, João Botelho, João César Monteiro, Teresa Villaverde and Daniela Thomas. He was also a crew member of the films Memories and Confessions (1982, 39th Mostra), by Manoel de Oliveira; April Captains (2000), by Maria de Medeiros, winner of Jury Award of Best Film at the 24th Mostra; The Portuguese Nun (2009, 32 th Mostra), by Eugène Green, and the trilogy Arabian Nights (2015, 39th Mostra), by Miguel Gomes. He codirected the documentaries Outros Bairros (1998) and Pátria Incerta (2006).
