Was born in 1969 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Graduated at the National Film School of Denmark. Launched the Dogma manifest along with Lars von Trier in 1995. Made his debut feature, The Biggest Heroes, in 1996. His second feature film, The Celebration (1998), won a Special Jury Prize in 22nd Mostra. He followed up with two English language films: It’s All about Love (2003, 27th Mostra), Dear Wendy (2005, 29th Mostra), Submarino (2010), The Hunt (2012) and Far from the Madding Crowd (2015).
