Toshiro Mifune (1920-1997) was the most prominent actor of Japan’s golden age of cinema, appearing in nearly 170 films, 16 of which with Akira Kurosawa. From rare archive footage and interviews with actors and filmmakers who worked with Mifune or were inspired by him, the documentary shows the actor’s life and career and and his pivotal role in the evolution of the samurai film and in the Japanese cinema and its history.
