Born in Vila Velha, Brazil, in 1981. He got his degree in film and video from the University of São Paulo’s School of Communications and Arts. He directed the short films Areia (2008), which opened the 2008 Semaine de la Critique in Cannes, O Menino Japonês (2009), Os Barcos (2012) and Merencória (2017). He also made the features The Moving Creatures (2012, 36th Mostra) and Your Bones and Your Eyes (2019), presented at International Film Festival Rotterdam.

Dutra directed short films like Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening (2006) and Sleeping Hammock (2010), and the features When I Was Alive (2014) and The Silence of the Sky (2016). With Juliana Rojas, he made short movies such as The White Sheet (2004) and A Stem (2007), and the feature films Hard Labor (2011) and Good Manners (2017, 41st Mostra), winner of the Jury Special Prize at Locarno Film Festival.
