The story takes place in a distant Chinese province in a place where modernity is in constant clash with medieval beliefs. In a strange amorous threesome, Sissy is an autistic boy, Qing Hua, his bride is almost a child, and Chung Shen is a close friend to both. The affair between Qing Hua and Chung Sheng comes to light when the couple violate the site known as the virgin?a tomb, a place where a young girl died pursued by thieves and rapists. When they meet Sissy again they discover he has adopted a new friend - a perfect double of the virgin that was killed. One detail completes the phantasmagoric atmosphere is the place where the bodies of young virgins are sold to serve as wives in the afterworld to boys who died single. In a sinister romantic atmosphere where no lover finds himself loved for very long, Qing Hua obstinately tries, however, to protect both her men from her supernatural rival.
