Julie, the daughter of Polish parents living in Canada, finds Henry, her husband, in bed with another woman. The couple are quickly reconciled when they are told that their boy, Nicholas, age eight, has cancer. As if this were not enough, he is allergic to chemotherapy. Julie’s father is a Catholic and decides he will have the boy baptized to save his soul. This upsets Henry who is Jewish. Julie pins all of her hopes for saving her son on Alexis, a faith healer she seeks out in Poland. A special relationship develops between her and this strange person.
