Their Story (1992)
Sobre o filme
A disturbing, uncommon film, not only in content, but also in form. Kamal Mazumdar, author of the short story that gave rise to this drama, is one of the most original writers of contemporary literature in Bengali. Without trying to find precise equivalents for the fascinating enigma of Mazumdar, Buddhadeb Dasgupta skillfully captures the biting irony that has always kept the writer far from cheap thrills and easy sentiment. The story is about a dreamer: a middle-aged man who keeps his yearning for a new India alive _ India fair and truly free. In his world of devotion to moral and ethical values, he can not accept the path taken by his country. Ridiculed and under pressure, he sees his dreams and ideals shattered, yet still has the strength to fight for what he believes in. As a consequence, he is declared insane and is carried off to a madhouse where his revolutionary spirit can be kept under control.
