A record of four black performers and a transvestite in a world of violence and racial segregation in the favela shanty towns of Rio de Janeiro. Musicians with different lifestyles, dreams and aspirations, but with one thing in common: samba, the enchanting Carnival music - music that springs from their hearts without the need for formulas or social schemes, with a desperate voice for confrontation and resistance. A story told by the artists, not only by the famous, but also by the unknown - deep in the soul of Brazilian musicality. The director records a performance by the Portela samba school during Carnival, the melodious voice of Caetano Veloso, the mysticism of candomblé in the voice of Virgínia Rodrigues, and includes interviews with actress Fernanda Montenegro and Rogéria, who changed sex.
