Serko (2006)
Sobre o filme
Dimitri, a young Cossack who is only 18 years old, sees his friend from the Evanks killed in cold blood at the beginning of construction of the Trans-Siberian railway. Discredited by his father, and never having left his home village, Dimitri decides to cross the 9 thousand kilometers of frozen Siberia to speak with the czar in Saint Petersburg. His only companion: his pony Serko. His justification for the trip is the defense of the Evanks, a small tribe to which he doesn‚Äôt even belong, but which suffered because of the construction of the Tran-Siberian. During the trip, Dimitri faces the boycott of the corrupt governor who fears the czar’ reaction, the brutal challenges posed by nature, and the strange peoples whose existence he could never have even imagined. But he also experiences luminous moments, like when he saves the life of French artist Emile Fragonard and his troupe. His journey begins to be told in plays with marionettes by Fragonard himself, which transforms Dimitri into a living legend, a fact which he humbly ignored. The film is based on the book “Serko: Two Hundred Extraordinary Days in the Life of a Cossack and His Little Gray Horse”, by Jean-Louis Gouraud, which deals with this true story that was transformed into one of the greatest epic adventures in Russia.
