Kingdom of Shadows (2000)
Sobre o filme
“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image”, God?s second law, resulted in the medium-length film Kingdom of Shadows. In an innovating attitude, Fiona Tan decided to turn the camera on herself. “I felt personally affected by this prohibition. I decided to make a film about my experience as a film director, no more, no less than a ‘creator and adorer of images’”. The idea was to go deep into her own feelings in relation to a “stream of images” that, for all of her life, ran through her memory. Edited in the manner of an associative collage of images, the film was structured as from the phases themselves that involved creating the film: research, script, editing, and finalizing/exhibition. The name Kingdom of Shadows was inspired by Maxim Gorki, according to the description of the writer for his first visit to a cinema, held by the Lumière brothers in 1896. This film is part of the series The Ten Commandments, that includes medium-length films by the best directors of documentaries residing in Netherlands.
