Redacted (2007)
Sobre o filme
Between documentary and fiction, the film is centered on a small group of American soldiers in service in a control station in Iraq. It alternates points of view, balancing the experiences of young people constantly under threat and the target of the media with those of the people of Iraq. It casts light on the way in which each one of the sides is affected by the conflict and what happens when both meet. True situations and real people played by actors merge with real impacting images that actor Brian de Palma sought in the internet, in videos on the You Tube site and in personal records of blogs of soldiers such as Angel Salazar. During his passage through Iraq, he used a digital camera to record day-to-day work and statements from colleagues. In the film, it is not always possible to differentiate the documental material from the fictional. This is evident in a disturbing scene that focuses on the rape of an Iraq girl of 15 and the extermination of a family by a group of American soldiers in service in the city of Mamhudiya. The real fact was the starting point for the filmmaker. "Redacted" means edited or prepared for publication, but is also a term used to refer to the suppression on purpose of important information in a document, in a kind of prior censorship. De Palma won the Silver Lion for directing at the 2007 Venice Film Festival.
