The film focuses on "jueteng", a game of numbers dating from when the Phillipines were a Spanish colony (1521/1898). The story describes three days in the life of Amelita, a bet collector. Although "jueteng" has been declared unlawful, she still collects bets from regular customers. One day she is arrested by the police, together with other collectors, at the police station, until her contractor pays bail. But next morning, Amelita is once again back on the streets and still at her unlawful clandestine occupation. She meets a community priest who tells her news of the death of a young neighbor in an accident. He asks her to collect donations from friends. A series of events at this point transforms Amelita?s mundane existence into an intricate game of life, luck, and death. On the third day, a holiday, she pauses in her labors to visit the tomb of her son, a soldier killed in the war.
