It’s 1960. When a Hartford couple turns to psychiatry for help with their marriage, things quickly spiral out of control. Couples counseling, therapy, group therapy and 24-hour marathon sessions ensue. Their four children begin to suffer and are also put into therapy. Pills are prescribed, people are institutionalized and shock therapy administered. The most novel suggestion is that they make tape recordings for their psychologist: diaries, family fights and letters. When Allis dies, a big box of these tapes is found in the shed. The filmmaker Morgan Dews is the grandchild of that couple.
