The first sound film in the director?s career on his return to Sweden subsequent to some time spent in the U.S. Sjöström makes up a chronicle of life in a small town in up-country Sweden, in reference
to the childhood memories of writer Hjalmar Bergman in his
bucolic native town, Örebro. The film was first shown shortly after the death of the writer.
