Whispering Pages (1993)
Sobre o filme
In this film, Sokúrov skims through the pages of one of the greatest classics in Russian and world literature: “Crime e Castigo”, by Dostoevsky, using his ideological issues and historical setting, but on the other hand, entirely subverting the plot, suppressing events and the celebrated characters from the original novel. The historical characteristics of a mode of life - whether represented by the environment or by the model - are shown at times in a correct manner, and in others but suggested. Whispering Pages is a “psychological outline” of the city, transmuted into a grotesque metaphor that reveals the tragic essence of the great cities - beyond referring to the somber reality of the present time.
