Pachito Rex, Me Voy Pero No Del Todo (2001)
Sobre o filme
The film is a collection of various stories on the subject of an attempt against a controversial singer, Francisco Ruiz, the favorite candidate for winning the presidential elections of an imaginary Latin American country. Among other characters are the supposed assassin, the policeman detailed off to investigate the disappearance of the body, and an architect contracted to design a mausoleum in memory of the dictator in office. Some Mexican critics saw the film as an attack on the newly-elected government of Vicente Fox and a parody of the assassination that shook Mexico eight years ago, of politician Luis Colosio, killed brutally in Tijuana in 1994. Colosio was the candidate for the PRI (Partido Revolucionário Institucional) for President of the Republic. Fabian Hoffman has not admitted to the references: “It was only my way of criticizing Latin American democracy”. As to the similarity between character Pachito Rex and Vicente Fox, the director said: “All Latin American politicians are the same”.
