The Wild Guru (2007)
Sobre o filme
From São Paulo all the way to Pirenópolis and Rio de Janeiro, director André Martinez sets out on a creative journey with singer and composer Jorge Mautner and his long time partner Nelson Jacobina. They go from the big city into the interior of the country and return to the metropolis. The journey is not as simple as it might seem. The interior here is a plunge into the Brazilian soul and Brazil is the entire world. Brazil – black, white, Indian appears amid mythology, science, western and eastern philosophy, music and poetry: these are “leaping neurons” or “sail boats of dazzling light”. Mautner tries something of everything anthropophagous and finds a lesson in water and its ceaseless movement. A myth or science? Sacis and curupiras (mythological beings), flying saucers, neuroscience, quantum physics, atoms, electrons, high technology, beautiful landscapes, favela shanty towns and the law. This is Brazil distilled in Mautner’s prophetic trumpeting: “Rascals, repent”.
