The Emigrants (1971)
Sobre o filme
In the middle of the 19th century, the young couple Kristina and Karl-Oskar lives in a small rural community in Smaland, southern Sweden. They survive on a small plot of infertile land. Times are difficult: the weather is bad, the harvests are poor and hunger prevails. Thus, they decide to immigrate to the USA. They meet a group of farmers with their families planning the emigration under the leadership of a banned priest, sell everything and embark for the New Land. Five nominations for the Oscars, including best film, foreign film, director and actress (Liv Ullmann).
