Onde a Terra Acaba (2000)
Sobre o filme
Documentary about one of the most unique of Brazilian film makers: Mário Peixoto (1908-1992), who made the anthological Limit (1930-31). He was only 21 when he directed one of the most beautiful, innovating and experimental films in the history of silent movies. As an autobiographical record, Onde a Terra Acaba is structured as from passages from his diaries, from interviews, and letters. The film maker’ life in his youth is narrated by actor Matheus Nachtergaele. In addition to passages from Limit and hundreds of rare photographs, the documentary includes some precious items such as an interview with the director in black and white, a making-of made by the team from Limit, and fragments never before shown from Onde a Terra Acaba, by Peixoto, a film that was never completed. According to researcher Fernão Ramos, part of the legend around Mário José Breves Rodrigues Peixoto comes from his own behavior and personality : “a combination of shyness, megalomania, and a rare literary talent”.
