The King Is Alive (2000)

Sobre o filme

Lost in the infernal heat of an African desert, a bus crew of eleven takes refuge in the ruins of a ghost town. As chances that rescue is on the way become more remote, the anguish is greater, and a helpful idea comes up: why not put on a play? Choice of the celebrated King Lear, by Shakespeare, proves a risky option, and unleashes conflict among the passengers, when they are obliged, in addition to the wrath of natural elements, to face up to their own frailty. Under a leaden sun, "staging" the play provides the ideal conditions for an outburst of emotional and sexual tension, and the actors come face to face with the more brutal side of their emotions. Stripped of all inhibition, the individual struggle for survival causes them to stage the greatest role of all: that of their own lives.
