The New Country (2000)
Sobre o filme
In a refugee camp in the south of Sweden, Ali, a teenage Somali of 15 meets Massoud, an Iranian of 40. Prospects are not good for either one. The visa for permanence in the country is not forthcoming, and Massoud is about to be deported. They become friends, but their acquaintanceship may not last for long, for Massoud plans to run away. Ali decides to accompany him, for he does not wish to be left alone. Together, in an old car, they take to the road and undertake a trip through an unknown Sweden and with all the encounters, farewells, and flights that an “on the road” production demands. More than a political film about the vicissitudes of marginalized immigrants, The New Country broaches the relationship between these two new friends and also with the country and characters that they meet on their journey throughout Sweden.
