While trying to find something to read on her tram journey to work, Iris comes across her childhood diary. When she gets to the courthouse where she works as a typist, she opens her diary and starts to leaf through it while writing down an African immigrant’s testimony. On reviewing her diary, she is confronted with her past, and so is the immigrant as he answers the questions asked by the court’s president.
