Hands Over the City (1963)

Sobre o filme

In a sleazy district of Naples, a building collapses taking its toll in number of casualties and dead. The person responsible for the disaster is real estate entrepreneur Edoardo Nottola, who is investigated, only to go unpunished. He belongs to a right wing party, and the party members abandon him and strike out his name as candidate in the elections. Nottola is inflexible and arrogant and, under the protection of a few well-known corrupt politicians, becomes the first candidate for a center group. Only the opposition from the left seem decided to contest his rapid ascent to power. At the same time, in the district hit by the disaster, the residents are issued an order for eviction that generates protests and consequent confrontations with the police. The film was never released in Brazil and is preceded by a short film, Un Saluto a São Paulo (2006), by Elisa Resegotti, in an interview with filmmaker Francesco Rosi.
