Julia Mann (2005)
Sobre o filme
The story of Julia Mann, mother of German writer Thomas Mann. Born in Brazil, on a boat crossing between Angra dos Reis and Parati, she was taken to Germany at the age of seven where, for most of her life, she tried to adapt to customs that were different from those she knew in early childhood. This tragic break marred her life and originated a family unique in the history of literature. Two of the most important German writers of the twentieth century (Thomas Mann and Heinrich Mann) were part of her life, in addition to characters marked by exile, by death, and by flight. The documentary reflects on literature, the contrast between cultures, exile, and artistic creation. Furthermore, the film focuses on the influence exerted by Julia Mann on the lives and
on the literary masterpieces of her children, grandchildren, and of
her greatgrandson.
