Several stories develop in parallel: a lawyer, Osiris, who seduces women in his office, is the lover of Olga, a woman who pretends to be prudish only to feel herself more desirable; a friend of Osiris, in a good position in society, tries to convert him to homosexuality; a poor elderly couple live in growing conflict, to the extent that the wife refuses to eat meals with her rude husband; and shy, dissatisfied Nelsinho only feels apt for a full marital life if he has had intercourse with a prostitute. " Conjugal Warfare is an illustration to chronicles on the psychopathology of love in a suit-and-tie civilization, as yet in effect today in the mythological, ubiquitous city of Curitiba, where plastic flowers thrive and red china elephants may, all of a sudden, appear", says Joaquim Pedro de Andrade. The filmmaker adapted short stories by Dalton Trevisan, who added: "The very beautiful film by Joaquim Pedro dazzled my eyes, brought joy to my heart, and edified my soul. Better than the book is this fabulous masterpiece directed with voracity, humor, and a critical conscience." The film was awarded prizes for directing, for actress (Elza Gomes), and editing, at the 1975 Brasília Film Festival, in addition to Honorable Mention at the Barcelona Film Festival (Spain), and the Embrafilme Prize for Quality.
