Film and Reality (1939)
Sobre o filme
A study on the development of documentaries as from when they were first devised in film language, the film includes passages from 59 documentaries. The film cost Cavalcanti his job for, according to the producers, it was too eclectic and did not do justice to the British Documentary Movement. Compiled in a non-chronological form, the film includes the following directors and films: Lumière, Tom Mix, Eisenstein, Dieterle, Meliès, Renoir. In the second half: Allégret and Gide, Flaherty, Cavalcanti (Rien que les Heures), Ruttmann, Eisenstein, Watt, Cavalcanti and Watt (North Sea), Benoît-Lévy, Vigo, and others.
