And Nothing More (1982)
Sobre o filme
As from an instigating collage of image and sound, Sokurov produces visual meditation on the historic coalition between Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States during the Second World War. Based on material on file, such as photographs, documents and old film, the director has composed a subjective mosaic in a counterpoint of scenes of the allied leaders and common persons. In this way, he questions the role of anonymous citizens during this period of exception and tragedy in world history. The editing of sound and image give rise to unexpected moments compelling a modern viewer to question himself as to the sense of scenes that have been reiterated to such an extent over the course of decades that they are bereft of any feeling, or have been transformed into a cliché unilateral and monolithic to interpretation.
