Carlos Oswald - The Light Poet (2005)
Sobre o filme
The disregard and ignorance of Brazilians when it comes to national art and artists is shown with good humor in telling the story of painter Carlos Oswald (1992/1971). His works of art are found in cultural institutions, churches, palaces, and monuments, such as, for instance, Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. These sites are proof of the artist?s merit and permit an assessment of the extent of disregard in relation to cultural patrimony. The film focuses on the role of citizens in their relationship with the city and, also, on the consequences of urban intervention on an artist. The institutions that manage culture should, for this reason, support the presence of art, perceptible or otherwise, in day-to-day life in the country. Painter Carlos Oswald is personified by actor Fernando Eiras, also present at the 30th Mostra as the protagonist in The Incurable Ones. Photography director Mário Carneiro, one of the longest lived professionals in the field in Brazilian cinema, was a recurrent collaborator with Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, honored with a complete retrospective at the 30th Mostra.
