Coalface (1936)
Sobre o filme
This experiment in realism focuses on the importance of coal for British industry and the difficulties and physical hazards faced by the miners. Cavalcanti was first contracted as sound consultant. On the one hand, the film presents a picture of British industrial power triumphant; and on the other, the abject conditions of labor in the mines. The march underground of the miners, with their elongated shadows cast on the walls of the gallery, and the muted chorus as a background have been compared to the descent of the Seven Dwarfs down to Snow White’ mines.
