The Ripples (2002)
Sobre o filme
Inako Natsui is a modern girl working in a laboratory, living in a monotonous way in a city in up-country Japan. She is sometimes visited by her mother, widowed 17 years previously. Her aunt Sadako and her uncle Shuhei, the local government representative, intend to present her to a suitable young man, but Inako does not want to get married. She is more interested in the incandescent rock that rises from the earth in her town each spring, and that she uses in her experiments. All this changes when she meets Tamamiza, newly-divorced, with one small child. The parents are against the relationship. In the midst of this confusing scene, the mother receives a letter from her husband, until then said to be dead. In a delicate way, the film evokes the underlying feelings of mother and daughter, as uncontrollable as the lava bursting forth.
