Ill Fated Love (1978)
Sobre o filme
An adaptation of the novel of the same name written in 1863, by Camilo Castelo Branco, one of the greatest Portuguese romantic authors. A precise rendering of the text concerns the impossible love between Simão Botelho and Teresa de Albuquerque, a boy and a girl of noble families, engaged in a feud. The film broaches the laws and social norms replaced by new standards of behavior adopted by the central characters and complied with to the point of death or insanity. Simão really did exist: he was the uncle of author Camilo Castelo Branco. Both uncle and nephew experienced complicated love affairs and were held prisoner because of these same affairs, in the same prison, in Porto. This was the opening film for the 3rd Mostra.
