In the wake of a dream, João Vieira Torres sets out in search of the children born into the world by his paternal grandmother. Unable to read or write, Aurora, whom the director never met, worked as a midwife for over 40 years in the backlands of Bahia. From one encounter to the next, with the living and the dead, the film follows her trail, confronting the structural gender and racial violence present in Brazil’s historical formation.
Presented at the Visions du Réel.
